Publicado en una edición de 10.000 ejemplares firmados y numerados, el SUMO se agotó poco después de su lanzamiento y multiplicó rápidamente su valor. Hoy forma parte de numerosas colecciones de todo el mundo, entre ellas la del Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York. El legendario ejemplar número uno, firmado por más de 100 de las personalidades que aparecen en el libro, batió el récord del libro más caro publicado en el siglo XX: el 6 de abril de 2000 fue subastado en Berlín por 620.000 marcos alemanes, alrededor de 317.000 €.
Esta edición XL celebra ahora los 20 años del SUMO, el resultado de un proyecto concebido por Helmut Newton hace años. El volumen, revisado por June Newton, reúne 464 imágenes y un nuevo cuaderno que narra esta aventura editorial, un espectacular homenaje en un formato nuevo y más accesible al gran Helmut Newton.
